We are online!
Overview of initial functionality and search options
On May 26, 2020 was day one of the WeValCo website.. We are very proud of what you can find here already. Our vision is to make online cooperation as easy as possible and for this we have set ourselves the goal to create the necessary tools step by step. This also includes searching and finding projects to support them or to be inspired by existing projects. Step one is now realized, the search for international open source projects, for which we have gathered information for you. Of course you can also find existing solutions that you can use for your own software. You can find out how to do this in the following post. Let’s start with what you can expect here:
1. Get to know the user interface and discover the functions on the main page
2. Use the search to find projects you are interested in
and here we go…
Get to know the user interface and discover the functions on the main page
We split the main page into different sections. At top you will find the project search:
|
Below you will find popular search categories and at the bottom of the page top projects from the search. This is a selection of interesting projects that you can also find via the search bar.
Use the search to find projects you are interested in
The search bar consists of three elements, the search bar itself, an info icon [Alt](./assets/go-online/Search_info.png =20x23) and a search button. The info symbol explains briefly which additional search options are available in addition to the normal keyword search. We are already working on an improved version that makes it even easier for you. Currently, there are three ways to search:
The simple search
For simple search, you enter the search keyword directly into the search bar. This will search in the project description.
Search in the project title
If you put “p:” in front of your search term, you can search in the project title. It is important that you do not enter a space between “p:” and your search term, e.g. with “p:Vue” you search for “Vue” in the project title.
Search in the project tags
If you put “#:” in front of your search term, you can search in the project tags. Again, make sure you don’t use spaces in between. Of course you can also combine all three options. This will show you projects that fits best to your search keywords, e.g. “vue #:javascript”
Please see also the picture below:
On the project card you can find information about the popularity of a project (stars) and how active it is (commits), a short description and a selection of important tags. If you want to learn more about the project, click on “Details” to get the following detailed view:
Here all tags and the complete project description are listed. The categories are followed by the license under which the project was released. For all further information you can view the source code under “Repository” or visit the project website under “Project”. In one of the next steps we will offer you additional information on how you can participate in the project.
